It's Great to Play When Hubby's Away

My husband recently went away for the weekend with some of his friends. They said they were going fishing for the weekend, but I couldn't care less about what he was getting up to - I was looking forward to some alone time.

I find some time alone to be very therapeutic and it also gives both myself and my husband a reminder that we do love each other and miss one another when we're apart. As they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Actually, before I could enjoy my alone time, I had to get rid of the kids. Enter my mother, who loves my two little ones.

With the sleepover organized and my husband on his way to his fishing (or more accurately, drinking) expedition, I could relax in the knowledge that I had the house to myself for the entire weekend.

The first thing I did was run myself a bath. I set up candles, made the room dark, put on some of my favorite music and dipped myself in. The immediate sense of relief came over me and I dozed off a couple of time. It was probably the most relaxing hot tub experience I'd ever had.

Next, I sat down and did my nails. With two small children and a million things to do every day, I never get the chance to make myself feel special. Doing my nails is one of those things.

By this stage it was lunch time and I decided to make myself my favorite sandwich; tuna and avocado on rye. While I was eating my lunch, I started to think about my husband and kids - of course that only lasted a couple of minutes!

On Saturday afternoon I sat down, put on my favorite DVD - The Bodyguard - and made myself a couple of cocktails. It was now time to think about dinner, and I was feeling very happy and relaxed so in came the pizza and more cocktails.

I jumped on the Internet to check my email, see if there were any new videos on Youtube and made a quick post to my Myspace site. After that, I loaded up my favorite online bingo site to have a quick play and see if my good online friend, Jayne, was playing. Of course she was - a Saturday night isn't complete without a few cocktails and bingo cards along with my good online bingo friends.

Once I'd finished on the Internet I decided to get an early night, so I snuggled up and, amazingly, dreamt about my husband and kids.

The next morning I took the time to go out and undertake some much needed retail therapy - an important part of any relaxing girls weekend. I met a couple of friends at the mall and we shopped and gossiped for a few hours.

Before I knew it, it was time to go home and get ready for my kids to arrive. When they did walk through the door, I almost cried. I'm not sure why - just being emotional I suspect.

At the end of the day, it's great to have some alone time, but you always need to remember the people that you live your life for - your family. I adore my husband and children - I don't know what I'd do without them. I finished the weekend by cooking a magnificent feast for my family.

It was a great weekend, and hopefully you've taken away some ideas on what you can do on your "Me Time" weekend.
